Fairy Hair FAQ

  • How do I make an appointment?

You can find our booking page right here on this site, on our linktree here, and on our Facebook page here. Choose the event that’s most convenient for you, choose your desired amount of strands, and complete the booking info and you’re done!

To request a private party, please fill out our party request form.

    FULL EVENTS

If an event is full, please keep checking that booking link as last minute cancellations typically happen 24-48hrs prior to an event.

Unfortunately, we’re unable to get back to every single person when a cancellation pops up. We do try our best! Again, last minute cancellations happen all the time so be sure to keep checking back at that link.

  • How long does Fairy Hair last?

Each strand is attached to a single strand of your own hair and lasts until that hair sheds. Everyone has different shedding patterns at different times. Adults typically retain their strands for a few weeks to a few months, on average. Some of our customers have strands that stay in for over a year! We call those “vintage strands”.

It is typical to lose a strand or two relatively early, within the first few days. For this reason, we ALWAYS give extra strands. The first few strands you lose are on us!

  • Can I wash (brush, etc.) my hair with Fairy Hair in?

YES! You can do whatever you do to your regular hair while wearing fairy hair. Brush it (wide tooth comb or wet brush is best), wash it, heat style it (up to 350 degrees), color it, bleach it, keratin it. Anything is possible!

If you have strands that stay in for months through multiple processes, you may notice that they start to lighten or even strip of their color and turn silver. This is normal, and a sign that it’s time to make an appointment for some new sparkle!

  • How is Fairy Hair put in?

It’s fairy magic! We weave the strands on to one single strand of your hair using a technique that has been developed with years of practice and experience. We do NOT use glue, beads, or heat. We guarantee no damage to your hair.

We strongly encourage you to ask questions about the method of installment before getting fairy hair. We have seen some damage to people’s hair with incorrect applications (melting strands, losing chunks of hair).

  • How old do you have to be to get Fairy Hair?

Original Maryland Fairy Hair is perfect for all ages! Our youngest client was 6 months and our oldest was 96 years old!

    FOR CHILDREN:

Fairy hair usually works best in adult hair. It doesn't last as long in our younger clients because their hair follicles are not yet mature. We recommend starting with five strands for kids under five years old. We give this disclaimer so you don't have high expectations, but there is always an exception to the rule. Many of our clients under the age of 10 keep their strands for months!

While we don't have a specific age for a child to receive Original Maryland Fairy Hair, there are two requirements that must be met:

    - The child must give consent (verbal or otherwise)

    - The child must be able to sit in the chair by themselves and sit still.

  • How do I prepare for my Fairy Hair appointment?

Hair that is CLEAN AND DRY, as product free as possible, and brushed free of tangles are best for the fairies to work with and can help your sparkly strands last longer.

Please arrive ON TIME to your appointment to ensure we run on schedule. If one person runs late, we all run late. If you are more than 5 or 10 minutes late for your appointment, you will be worked in to the next available opening in the schedule. We do our absolute best to keep things running on time. Please allow a half hour window as a precaution.

  • How do I cancel or reschedule my Fairy Hair appointment?

The easiest way to cancel or reschedule is to refer back to your confirmation or reminder emails. On that email, you will see a button, “Change/Cancel Appointment”. Click there and it will walk you through the very easy process to either cancel or reschedule.

All our appointments require a 24-hour cancellation notice (but please give as much notice as you can as some events may have wait lists and we would love to offer your spot to someone else).

You will be sent an invoice in the event of a no-show. If you no-show two times, you will be blocked from scheduling further appointments.

THE STORE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR CANCELLATIONS. PLEASE TEXT (DO NOT CALL/LEAVE MESSAGE) (240) 514-4777 TO CANCEL.

Our system sends a reminder 48 hours before your appointment to your email, where you will have the option to cancel or reschedule if needed. If you are unable to make changes online, please TEXT us at (240) 514-4777.

  • How much does it cost? How can I pay?

Prices start at 5 strands for $15 per person.

    10 strands $30

    15 strands $40

    20 strands $50

    30 strands $75

    40 strands $100

    50 strands $125

    60 strands $150

    70 strands $175

    80 strands - $200

    90 strands $225

    100 strands - $250

We accept most forms of payment including all major credit cards at the time of your appointment.

Pricing is per person and cannot be split between multiple people. First time clients get anywhere between 15-30 strands at their first sparkle session.

We recommend children 6 and under start with just 5 or 10 strands.

  • What kind of events do you do?

We do pop-ups in stores, private appointments, select festivals, private parties, birthday parties for all ages, bat mitzvahs, corporate events, you name it — we’ll make it sparkly!

For more info or to request a party or pop-up in your store, please fill out our request form.

  • Do you do fundraisers?

In our years of experience, fundraisers in the traditional sense never end up being as lucrative as you’d think. We are happy to donate gift cards to your event, or pop up at your event as a way to bring people in.

Please fill out a contact form to tell us more about your event and someone will contact you to discuss further.

  • I have an upcoming hair appointment. Should I wait to get my sparkles?

You do not need to wait, but it’s up to you. Original Maryland Fairy Hair is attached to a single strand of hair near the roots, so it’s ok to get haircuts with it in. You can wash it, brush it, comb it, curl it, COLOR it, straighten it, blow it dry, keratin, blow out or heat style.

  • I'm getting an MRI. Do I need to take out my fairy hair?

It’s ok to get an MRI with fairy hair in. There is no metal in the product. If you’re having an MRI done on your head and you have a lot of strands in (think 50+) it may be a good idea to remove them just in case they cause interference.

We have heard from many, many clients who have undergone MRI with fairy hair in and it has not caused a problem.

  • How do I become a Fairy?

Thank you for your interest! We're a small, family owned and operated business. At the moment, we are currently not hiring any fairies outside of family and close friends but we would love to know more about you!

Please email us directly at marylandfairyhair@gmail.com and tell us about yourself, how long you've been wearing fairy hair, your current location, and most importantly, why you want to be a fairy.

  • What colors do you have? What color should I choose?

We carry every color of the rainbow, including rainbow! You can choose a color to match your hair and give you a subtle sparkly shine, or choose what we call a “party in your hair”! We love to help with picking the perfect color for you, so let us know at your appointment if you need some suggestions.

Follow us on Instagram @MDfairyhair to see lots of examples of hair colors and styles!

  • My salon offers this. Why should I go to you?

We hear this a LOT. No disrespect to any salons or stylists out there, don’t ask me to give you a haircut or balayage! In our experience, most places do not know how to install these strands. At best they fall out in a few days, at worst, they cause damage to the hair, causing it to fall out in clumps. Another thing to consider is that all fairy hair is not created equal, our strands have been time tested and are guaranteed to not melt or cause damage (we’ve seen it happen!)
